Wedding cake with exquisite sugar orchids
Wedding season is approaching, and here is a stunning cake to get you in the mood. Gone are the days of fluffy frosting and miniature plastic people on top of the cake. This elegant cake is covered in smooth, pale pink and rich brown fondant, and festooned with delicate, handmade, gumpaste orchids. Those blossoms look amazing, especially the very thin, fluted edges. And look at the painted details, too. The touches of pink and yellow, and the tiny freckles on the petals. Wow.

Devil’s food cake waffles
I was in the mood for something chocolate, and I came across this delicious chocolate waffle. It’s made in a waffle iron, with devil’s food cake batter. Of course, the batter is mixed from scratch — not from a box — although I’m tempted to try it with a boxed mix, just to see whether it works.
Who says you can’t have chocolate cake for breakfast? Topped with whipped cream and strawberries, it looks like the perfect breakfast to me!

Thank you to Jocelyn, of Eugene, Oregon, for sharing her photo and recipe!

Icing Dreams: Fondant circles and sparkly details
This beautiful cake is by Maryam, a UK fashion student turned Canadian cake designer. She does amazing things with fondant and sugarpaste. This vanilla sponge cake with buttercream filling is adorned with fondant circles in shades of blue. See the metallic blue dragees, embossed stitching on the lower left fondant ribbon, and sparkly sugar sprinkled upon the smooth shoulder of the lower layer? I love the details!

I’ll definitely be featuring more of Maryam’s work here in the future. If you can’t wait, go visit her at Icing Dreams. Thank you, Maryam!
