Wagashi: Japanese confectionery artistry
I think Japanese confections are some of the most beautifully intricate and interesting. These are wagashi, and the information with the package says:
Each shape represents seasonal items and/or flowers. Each is hand made using red and/or white bean paste with natural food coloring. Usually served for Japanese tea ceremonies.
They are almost too pretty to eat, but I think I could manage it! Which do you like the best? I think I’d take the pink cherry blossom in the bottom left corner first. Yum!

Thanks to moriza for allowing me to show his photo here!

yummm..I’d start with one of those yellow ones with flakes all over it. Coconut or shaved chocolate maybe?

If you take that one, then I think I’d take the little yellow sushi-like number that’s second from the bottom on the right hand side. I’m not even sure why, but I have a feeling it would be delicious.

I like the stripped one in the top row in the center. But they all look great, though!

They’re incredibly cute. I love how detailed and intricate the designs are. I don’t think I can bring myself to bite any of them!
They look soooooooo beautiful together. Very, very tempting…

So pretty, but I’ll take the middle one right at the bottom!
They look almost too good to eat. Might have to do a trawl of some shops this week to see where near me sells them.
I agree with you that Japanese food in general is some of the most beautiful and artistic around. I’m a huge fan of sushi and just about all Japanese food, except I really don’t like their desserts. They look gorgeous but I’m just not a fan of their taste. But if this were in front of me, I’d totally reach for the peppermint looking one in the top center.
